Descripción

This dataset comes from a series of collections made by Albert H. Banner in 1954 while on a Yale University-University of Hawaii-Bishop Museum Grant; it deals with those shrimps collected in the Fiji, Tonga , and Samoa archipelagoes.The original paper describing this collection was prepared in final form in December 1961, complete with plates, maps, locality records, etc., but it was destroyed in the fire at the Hawaii Marine Laboratory. Lost also in the fire were the specimens in .the collection and the field notes. The sections of the paper dealing with Fiji, Tonga, and Western Samoa were salvaged in part from the partially burned original study notes and in part from the first draft of the text: for American Samoa we were able to make another collection which partially replaced the lost collection. Certain ambiguities in the preliminary notes could not be resolved for this final completed paper by reference to the original specimens, as is normally done.
